Harry Gusman is a professional guitar teacher who knows his students needs very well. The students can also be really aided with the effective given methods of study, the application of theory and discipline techniques. I am very lucky that I had a chance to learn some guitar lessons from him at Pazz Music Center, Solo. He is simply one of the top notch musicians.

Even though Harry has been living in Australia for the past eight years, he is still well-known in Indonesia for his crazy guitar playing. In Java everyone in the music industry knows him by his nickname Harry Singa (Lion). Harry is one of the people who has had the biggest influence on my guitar playing. The five months that I spent learning guitar with Harry improved my playing dramatically. As a teacher he is precise, systematic and encourages us to be the best that we can be. There are a lot of good guitar players out there but there are not many who can teach guitar as well.Harry is one of those unique people who has the patience and ability to teach others while being a great musician himself. I look forward to jamming with him again soon.

I started lessons with Harry at the end of October 2005, and only wish I had done it sooner. Not only is Harry teaching me the discipline of guitar and musicianship, I constantly pick up advice about gear, guitar setups and what it takes to bring an audience along with you in a live setting.

Being self taught over several years, motivation was difficult as inspiration was hard to find. Sometimes the guitar would lie idle for weeks. Bad habits also set in as no one was there to point out the different, often better, ways to approach the guitar.

A great teacher shortens the learning cycle and always inspires new ideas. Harry brought the discipline to technique, feel and smart practice that is required to continually inspire a player to move to new heights. Now I can’t put the guitar down!I highly recommend Harry and his teaching style to anyone who is truly passionate about becoming the best player they can be.

I have been learning from Harry Gusman for almost three years now. During this time I have developed my musicianship level from beginner to advanced, all thanks to finding an experienced guitar teacher. I previously had a guitar teacher who taught me for a couple of months, and the standard that he teaches cannot compare to Harry’s.

My previous teacher had lessons that were very unprepared, he looked rather clueless about what to teach in his lessons, and only used the resources around him like songbooks and teach me from them. He had no material that he prepared himself and went straight into learning riffs and songs without explaining theory/fundamentals in detail.

Harry’s lessons are always well prepared, he knows exactly what he wants to teach you based on your current ability, he has all his material prepared in every lesson and will always spot your faults if you are doing playing something wrong on the guitar. This is very vital in the course of improvement and many people often cannot spot these faults themselves.

In Harry’s guitar lessons you will learn everything you need to move from a beginner to an advanced guitarist. He teaches you all the fundamentals of music, theory and he will explain them in every possible way to make you understand. He will not only teach you the technical skills of guitar but he will also teach you how to sing with your guitar, discipline and how to expand your creativity.

As a teacher, Harry is very determined in teaching his students, he is always thinking of creative ways to teach his students and you will find that he will always have the answers to your questions. As Harry’s student, I will be honest that throughout the course of these three years, I have improved dramatically, however there were downtimes when my mind wasn’t really into guitar.

During those times, Harry did NOT give up on me and continued to find ways to increase my motivation by always trying to make our lessons fun and inspiring. And because of this, I am happy to say that till this day I am still learning from him and devoting myself to guitar. So if you are looking for quality guitar lessons in Sydney. Harrys Guitar Studio is the place to go, he won’t let you down.

When I started bass guitar lessons with Harry, somewhere between 4-5 years ago, I was 15 and had messed around with the bass guitar a bit but due to a lack of direction and knowledge did not make good progress. I remember messaging Harry and telling him that it was my goal to be able to be a good enough bass player to play and tour with bands. He told me that this was definitely possibly and right now after a lot of smart practice under his instruction i’ve finally achieved that goal and am currently playing with a fantastic band, and we’re going to be touring soon.

If you start learning guitar or bass lessons with Harry and you have the determination and drive to follow his lessons he will get you to any level in music that you want to get to. As a bass player my band have been very  impressed with my technical ability, my concentration and other things too, even including my attitude. Harry’s role in directing me in terms of great songs to learn and in learning many different techniques cannot be stated enough and I would not be at this level by now if I had not been going to lessons with him.

Along with being a very knowledgeable musician, since Harry has studied music thoroughly, at a number of different universities and still continues to study, he is also a greatly experienced player who can offer you guidance that many other guitarists and guitar teachers could not. I have heard of many different great guitarists but I have heard of far fewer great teachers and Harry is both, which is rare.

On a number of occasions when Harry has helped me master a skill and has been pleased with my progress he has told me that for any student to make good progress with a teacher, you must have both a good student and good teacher and if you choose to study under Harry then half the job is done. The rest is up to you.

When did you start learning the guitar?

I first started learning guitar five years ago when I was 19.

What inspired you to learn?

I remember I just wanted to learn heavy guitar stuff like System of a Down. But after a few lessons with Harry, he showed me to be more open minded and musical. From there I was inspired to take guitar and music more seriously.

Why did you choose to learn with Harry?

I found Harry online and was impressed with his webpage so I decided to try a few lessons. The lessons were so good that I continued them for years after and still go now.

What have you learnt with Harry so far?

I’ve learnt pretty much everything from chords and scales to music theory and practice techniques.

What is the biggest benefit of learning guitar in your life?

Learning guitar and music is one of the most challenging things I have ever done. In it I am constantly reaching bumps after bumps. I would learn something new and then get stuck right after. Every time I overcome a new bump, I feel a great sense of satisfaction and think “wow, I can do it”. I can’t wait to conquer the next bump after. This, I think, has changed the way I think about other challenges in life and shows that they can be overcome if you put some effort into it. I believe music has generally made me a better person.

Would you recommend to others?: Yes

Why?: Harry was patient and methodical, and the way that he teaches you how to play guitar is perfect. I have been through a few other teachers on my travels, but Harry is the best. When did you start learning the guitar?

I started “playing” the guitar about 35 years ago.I started “learning” the guitar 3.5 years ago when I started getting lessons from Harry.

What inspired you to learn?

My wife bought be a new guitar for a present and I decided I wanted to really learn the instrument instead of just fooling around.

Why did you choose to learn with Harry?

I checked out some local teachers and researched online. I wanted a somebody who played in a band and practiced what they preached. Having seen Harry play live many times I know that what he teaches is how he plays.

What have you learnt with Harry so far?

Wow! So much!Being technically minded I have to know “why” as well as “what” – I have not come up with any questions (and I ask a lot) about the guitar or music in general that Harry cannot both answer and explain in different ways to help me understand. It all starts in the brain.Oh, and tap your foot – in time!

What is the biggest benefit of learning guitar in your life?

Doing something that you can continue to learn forever and jamming with mates.
