Justin has been a musician for 25 years and performed in a number of bands for the past 15 years. He also teaches guitar to beginner and intermediate level students. Justin started out as a trombone player and did the Australian Music Examinations Board exams before switching to guitar. With a strong musical background -- and a mother who was a music teacher -- Justin committed himself to guitar and continued to improve his ability through practice and lessons. Justin was a band leader of a marching band (140 musicians) that played a tour of England including the royal tournament in front of the royal family, and played on the steps of the opera house on Australia’s bicentenary in front of the PM and Charles and Lady Diana in 1988. Justin started taking lessons with Harry which improved his ability as a teacher and a professional musician. Through a combination of Harry’s teaching method and his own hard work and practice, Justin made incredible progress in technique and practice. After just two lessons, Justin felt he was a better player than when he started. His hunger for musical knowledge saw his technique, ability to improvise and understanding of chord scales and modes all improve at lightning speed. His enthusiasm for learning extended to teaching and Justin is now trained in Harry's proven step-by-step teaching method. His focus is on beginner and intermediate level students to ensure they have the best foundations for continued learning. He teaches at Harry's Guitar Studio in Marrickville. Justin has played various styles of music including Blues, Rock n Roll, Hard Rock, Reggae, Punk, Funk, Folk, and more. His influences are Ian Moss, Kurt Cobain, Keith Richards, Angus Young from AC/DC, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, to name a few. This is Justin's teaching schedule:
Later on, he became interested in guitar and went on to teach himself to play. Shortly after, he joined the Sydney based band ‘Freefall’ to play drums but decided he wanted to play guitar instead and subsequently joined the band as their second guitarist. After teaching himself the guitar over a period of 3 years, he realised that it was hard to progress further without the help of a guitar tutor. That’s where Harry came in!! Since having lessons with Harry, he’s noticed a dramatic improvement in his speed, accuracy and picking technique as well as his knowledge of the guitar. Bad habits are formed very easily when you’re learning by yourself and are sometimes hard to break and this is why he went to learn from Harry. Yu-Jen has also taught drums to a number of students over a 2 year period and found that he enjoyed teaching students the joy of rhythms, beats and music but now has a passion for guitars and guitar gear, although he continues to play the drums as well. He now teaches beginners at Harry’s guitar studio and looks forward to helping students to also become passionate about the guitar through Harry’s step-by-step teaching method. A few of his influences on guitar are Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dave Grohl and Chris Shiflett of the ‘Foo Fighters’, Mark Tremonti of ‘Creed’ and ‘Alter Bridge’, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero of ‘Rodrigo y Gabriela’, Gary Moore, The Edge from ‘U2’, Tom Morello of ‘Rage against the Machine’ and ‘Audioslave’ and John Butler of the ‘John Butler Trio’. This is Yu-Jen's teaching schedule:
Gene’s musical journey started at age 13, after much scope to the find the right instrument, settling for nothing but the best - the guitar. Finding his passion Gene started playing in bands after much practice on the instrument, getting private lessons from local players in the Byron Bay area. Soon Gene was playing professionally in covers bands around the circuit, as well as frequenting jam nights to play with the best local talent. He started university in 2005 to complete a three-year contemporary music course majoring in guitar, under guitar guru Jim Kelly. Gene received top marks from the course and gained a whole lot of concepts and information, on how to play and approach the instrument. Whilst at university Gene played in a jazz funk quartet, The Monarchs, played for the Southern Cross University big Band lead by ken Stubbs, and led and played in covers band Groove Embassy doing all local venues on the north coast of NSW. He also played in various duos and originals acts. He recently moved to Sydney, and is now playing regularly in covers band Dirty Cherry. Gene’s styles include rock, blues, fusion, folk, funk, and country. Guitar influences include Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Scofield, Ian Moss, Scott Henderson Wayne Krantz, Jim Kelly, John Mayer, George Benson, Jeff Lang, and Eric Clapton (acoustic). Gene's talent, skill and knowledge has made Harry's Guitar Studio even richer. Harry's Teaching Method combined with Gene's approach of teaching and previous experience will help you to develop your musicality and improve your skill to play guitar to the best you can be. This is Gene's teaching schedule:
Doe first entered the world of music at 16 when, inspired by his brother Harry, he decided to learn guitar. It wasn’t long before he discovered that bass was his real passion. He fell in love with the bass role and committed to developing the skills and feel to go professional. In year 12 Doe formed a band with friends from school and performed at parties and local music festivals. Doe’s dedication to bass saw him spend up to 10 hours a day practicing. Fortunately, he lived amongst a number of professional musicians who challenged and supported each other musically and with the help of his brother’s when he studied Music music in the university to be a qualified music teacher. It wasn’t long before Doe was accomplished enough to start playing professionally. Doe played in the same band with Harry in pubs, night clubs, parties and concerts as well as accompanying a few well known artists. He then played in a Dream Theatre tribute band for about 6 years. The bands won some awards in Central Java and in some national competitions. Doe won the award “Best Bass Player in Indonesia” in the Rock Music category 5 times. Doe made a living teaching bass, doing workshops, and playing music in Indonesia. Doe moved to Australia in 1998, where he continued to teach and play bass professionally. Doe is living in Brisbane and has worked with a lot of local artists in music scenes across Queensland. He is into progressive rock, metal and soul but he can play almost any style of music. He has a large repertoire of bass styles, from a laid back soulful style to really going for it … like Steve Harris, Billy Sheehan, or Stuart Hamm. Doe is currently working with a few bands as a session bass player and teaching privately under Harry's Guitar Studio in his home studio at Sandgate - Brisbane, QLD. This is Doe's teaching schedule:
